Seven rafting ‘virgins’ set off on a rainy morning to raft down the King River. Our trepidation was obvious as we were suited and booted up at the Scenic Railway station. After a thorough (and entertaining) safety briefing, we boarded the raft and adventure ensued! An exhilarating series of rapids had us soaking wet and laughing hard. One rapid requires a very physically challenging portage, but the guides, Ross and Jerome, were experts and made sure everyone was safe. A wonderfully healthy lunch under the Scenic Railway bridge as the train came by was followed by a slow paddle for the remainder of the river down to Macquarie Harbour, floating past Huon pines and watching the steam rise from the river in the emerging sunshine. The photos and videos taken by the rafters and Jerome in the ‘rescue canoe’ are compiled onto a USB, for $25, it’s a great way to show your adventures to the folks at home. Thoroughly recommend the adventure and thanks to Ross for the laughs, even though you’re a Pom!
